The Cucumber King

Supporting the UK Cucumber Industry

  • In AD 931 the then King of Burma – Theinhko – ate some cucumbers without the permission of the farmer who had grown them. Whereupon the farmer killed the king. Theinko’s Queen, fearing civil disorder, smuggled the cucumber farmer into the royal palace and dressed him in royal robes. Later he was proclaimed King Nyaung-u Sawrhan and was known as the “Cucumber King”. The new King later transformed his former cucumber plantation into a spacious and pleasant royal garden. It just goes to show the power of the cucumber! And make sure you pay for them before you start to eat.
